[image type=”none” float=”none” src=”2159″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=”align-text: center;”][text_output]We are proud to introduce the Blueshirts Breakaway Hockey Lexicon, your one-stop shop for learning about hockey analytics in an intuitive and easily digestible manner. We put months of work and research into creating this resource for the purpose of trying to make the complex and often overwhelming world of hockey analytics, or “fancy stats,” easier to understand for everyone. Our goal here isn’t to try to convince you all that hockey analytics are the end-all, be-all of player and team analysis; in fact, it’s quite the contrary. Our goal is to help everyone to learn about the concepts, statistics and resources that are available for free to fans to help supplement your current analysis, hockey conversations and what you see when you watch the game.

What we aim to provide is a far more robust resource than a standard glossary or a typical article discussing various analytics. Instead, we decided we wanted to provide everyone looking to learn more about hockey analytics with a comprehensive learning resources that not only provides the definitions for the litany of advanced stats and concepts available, but also give context to why the stats are important, and how you can use them. Within the Lexicon, we also summarize and link to various resources that fans can use for free to help learn about a variety of hockey-related items, including statistics, prospects, contracts and the game in general. Lastly, we provide a lengthy list of people we highly recommending following on Twitter if you would like to learn more, and we offer up suggestions for both Rangers-focused and more general league-wide individuals.

However, if this is all more than you are looking for, and all you want is something to help you brush up on the exact definition of a term you are already familiar with, we also provide the Metrics Glossary, which simply provides the definition for the terminology and statistics found in the Lexicon.

One last thing we would like to point out, is that we have incorporated the definitions housed in the Metrics Glossary throughout our website, so that whenever a term within the Glossary appears in an article, it will be underlined and linked to the definition. To view the definition on a desktop device, simply hover-over the underlined term with your mouse, and a little blue window will appear containing the definition. On touchscreen devices such as phones and tablets, you simply need to tap the linked term to view the definition window. For example, try  it here with this term: Game Score.[/text_output][image type=”thumbnail” float=”none” src=”2144″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”aligncenter” style=””][text_output]Both the Hockey Lexicon and Metrics Glossary will be resources that will evolve over time. These resources are not just a one-time information dump that we will never update. We plan on continuously looking to make additions and improvements to both the content contained within the pages and the usability of the pages. We already have a number of ideas in the works for how to improve the usability and integration of the resources with our site, but we wanted to at least get this out there now so everyone can begin using them and learning. If anyone has any questions about the resources or how to use them, or if you have any suggestions for how we can improve them, please do not hesitate to reach out to Drew Way or Constantine (Dean) Chutis. We value your feedback, and hope to make this the best learning resource possible for hockey fans of all preferences and acumens.[/text_output]
